Don’t be afraid to channel your inner Shirley Manson or Courtney Love.  Match your favorite jumper with an over-sized trench (my pick is a vintage navy Chanel trench), roll up those sleeves, belt it, throw on some boots, pucker up some red lips, hang a large piece of jewelry around your neck, and march out of the door while jamming to Hole’s “Dollparts”.

Western fashion will never go out of style…when in doubt-throw on a great pair of classic cowboy boots to spruce up your outfit. Anything with fringe seems to be all the rage these days and this AMAZING 70′s suede fringe vest is the ultimate find for any wardrobe. My favorite thing to do here at Sofia is to mix vintage pieces with new ones…so keep your style modern with a pair of m2f shorts…the hottest new denim line in town. To me…western fashion is like a Dali painting- ironic and surreal yet classic and intriguing. Nothing says “laid-back, cool and fashionable” quite like the western style.

The 3,000-square-foot shop is named after acting legend Sophia Loren and brings a notable fashion and retail pedigree to the high-end shopping district.

Ashley Zisook and Allison Zisook Goldstein

Owners Ashley Zisook and Allison Zisook Goldstein are the daughters of real estate executive Richard Zisook and the fashion-conscious and philanthropic Lili Ann Zisook. The sisters’ maternal grandparents are the late Morrie Mages of Morrie Mages Sporting Goods and the stylish Shirlee Mages.

“It’s a dream” to be on Oak Street alongside such “well-known retailers,” Ashley Zisook says of the move.

The boutique, at at 72 E. Oak St., opens in April and follows other new shops, including a beauty salon, spa and Judaica store a few hundred feet away, according to a recent report in Crain’s Chicago Real Estate Daily.

The resurgence is good news for shop owners along Oak Street who were stunned by the recent closing of Ultimo boutique.

Sofia may make up for that — at least a bit — offering new and vintage men’s and women’s clothing, including designers such as Halston, Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino.
